Comparison of Balance Ability according to Body Mass Index in Healthy adults

Abstract
Background: The purpose of this study is to suggest comparison of balance abilit y according to body mass index (BMI) in healthy adults.

Methods: Twenty subjects (ten male and ten female subjects) were participated and classified as normal weight (n=10) or overweight (n=10), according to the BMI. The balance ability was measured by limit of stability, postural sway, funct ional reaching test (FRT) and timed up and go test (TUG).

Results: In the left back, right back, back, right, left and total area of limit of st ability, there were statistically significant differences between the both groups. T here were significant difference in static balance, FRT and TUG.

Conclusion: These results show that obese students have more lose of balance a bility compare with normal weight adults. Therefore obese subjects have to effor t to losing weight and doing strength and balance exercise.
